When asked to bind Vintage Life, I started a trip down memory lane, looking through vintage photos, letters and keepsakes from my family archives. After an exhausting battle of collecting and then simplifying, I came up with a binding that represents my feeling of nostalgia for all things Vintage. The front and back covers are paper cut silhouettes of myself and my brother, made at the Big E in West Springfield, Ma. I made outer frames from vintage fabric from my Aunt Jennie’s stash, and used cardboard frames from old photos as mats. The tapes on the binding are from the same fabric, sewn with a french link stitch. I covered the folds of the sections with vintage Italian marbled paper, and used that same paper for the interior end papers. Finally, I housed the book in a box that is labeled ” my grandmother’s workbox, Jennie Dill” ( my great aunt). It fits almost perfectly inside.
